THREE
DAY
BEGINNER
STONECARVING
COURSE

A fun and informative introduction to stone carving and model making. This course takes place over three days and will involve first making a model in clay and then going on to learn how to carve using your model as inspiration.
Click book now for further details and to book your place. Available dates are as follows

7-9 March 2024
4-6 April 2024
2-4 May 2024

Courses with us will typically include the following but can be adjusted to suit your specific requirements:

Introduction to the tools
A professional quality carving kit will be provided but students will get the chance to learn about and try a whole range of advanced tools and techniques should they wish.

Model making in clay
You can bring a sketch, photo or object as inspiration or just use your imagination on the day should you prefer. Full guidance and materials will be provided to help you create a working clay model for use as inspiration when creating the following stone carving. You will learn professional modelling techniques including the use of armature wire for stability on delicate features. The model you create is yours to keep or we can recycle and reuse for future courses.

Stone Carving
You will learn how to turn your idea in to a finished piece of sculpture using the included tool kit and materials. Expert guidance will be provided to help you understand the tools and how best to use them. Harder and more exotic materials like marble or alabaster can be sourced for the more experienced students. Obviously it is expected that you take your carving home with you.

Lunch, snacks and refreshments
Tasty lunch and treats to keep you going through the day along with tea and coffee. Dietary requirements catered for.

Timings
Courses will normally be inline with a normal working 9-5 day with a lunch break and refreshments.

Further guidance
We will happily give further information upon where to buy tools and materials and can give ongoing support if you wish to continue carving at home.

Safety precautions

Safe lifting techniques and health and safety precautions will be covered and personal protective equipment will be included. We recommend you wear protective footwear during the course.

Create your own experience
We are more than happy to tailor an experience to meet your requirements and skill level. Perhaps you and a group of friends have an idea of a group carving activity or you already know the basics and want specific help to move on to the next chapter in your pursuit of stone working skills. Please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss your requirements and craft a really special experience for you.
